My best friends and I use to have Friends night. We would each bring a dish on Thursday night, head over to our friend Melissa’s house, and watch the show Friends. We would have so many people there we wouldn’t have a place to sit. Melissa was always the one coordinating our fun events. We even had girls’ weekend trips. They were always so much fun, and we would laugh until our stomachs hurt. Some girls went to high school together, and some met through work. We would bring other friends into the group, which kept growing and growing. As we have grown up and started families, some of the girls have moved away. Some moved to Virginia, North Carolina, and even Wisconsin. For the most part, we have all kept in contact. If we can get everyone in the same area, we still try to have a cookout or dinner together. It’s hard, since we have gone in different directions, but I do know that if I needed any of these girls, they would be there for me. It’s all about girlfriends!
Valerie and I were best friends in high school. We met in seventh grade and stayed friends through the years. It’s so funny, because when we had sleepovers, we would dance, laugh, and be silly girls. When we were teenagers, the boy band New Kids on the Block was popular. (Yes, I am that old!) She and I would fanaticize about which guy we would marry. She had a crush on Donny, the bad boy. My crush was on Jonathan, because he was the cutest. Since she has moved to Virginia, we don’t get to see each other as often, but she will always be a dear friend.
My friend Stephanie, oh Stephanie! I just do not think I could have made it through the past twenty years without this girl. We have been there for each other through so many life challenges. We became friends when we were young and made some not so smart teenage decisions. We have gotten married, me twice. She was there through my divorce. We have seen each other begin the journey of motherhood, and even our children are friends. We held each other and cried when we each had miscarriages. She was there for me when Jason and I were trying to have a baby. She was there for me during the hormone injections, steroids, and the emotional roller coaster. I was there for her during her scare with cancer. I am so blessed to have her in my life. To have a best friend you trust and love is so special.
